Next, head to the famous Vista do Rei viewpoint for the best perspective of the twin lakes nestled within the volcanic crater. We went on both the Sete Cidades and Lagos do Fogo tour and Furnas Full Day with Felipe as our guide. The weather was hideously bad, but Felipe made it work by trading out viewpoints at altitude (in the low clouds) with ones on the shore (West, North, and the blue+green lagoons). He also was quick to capitalize on unexpected fortune and ran us up to Pico do Ferro when the clouds cleared for a moment, getting us dramatic views of the entire crater of Furnas. All this while keeping up a nigh-uninterrupted narration of history, geography, economy, and volcanology. And gastronomy: you want to include the lunches on these tours, my friends, as you will be treated to delicious regional dishes in restaurants where locals are regulars. Always Felipe was willing to answer a question, and always he was willing to say he didn't know when he didn't, a rare and prized virtue.
We first booked the Sete Cidades tour and were lucky enough to have Filipe as our guide. He was amazing and helped us get a better understanding of the most notable geographical and social features of São Miguel. Overall, a really enjoyable, good value-for-money trip around some of the most beautiful places in the Western half of the island. We liked it so much that we decided to book the Furnas night trip with the same company. Filipe couldn't make it this time, but we were assigned another driver, Pedro, who was incredibly helpful and generous, driving us to different spots of the village as well as the crater area and making sure we made the most of it all. Highly recommended!

My wife and I recently went on the Furnas Night-Time Experience with The Thermal Baths and Diner. Our guide was Filipe and he was great. Very personable and knowledgeable. The dinner was very good with lots of food and drinks. The stop after dinner for tea at the outdoor thermals was a pleasant surprise as well. The thermal baths at night were magical with the lighting and gorgeous surroundings. Would highly recommend this tour group and Filipe!
The best tour I’ve ever been on!!!!!!!!!! I had no idea when I booked that there is so much included in the trip!! They take you to a beautiful scenic viewpoint, an amazing and tasty dinner, mineral water pools (where you taste different water and have tea), and finally the hot baths! Hervè is an amazing tour guide, he is so kind, knows everything and has so much knowledge about the history of Azores! Overall a wonderful experience! At the end of the night we got dropped off at home as well! 10/10! Do not hesitate to book, you won’t regret! :)
